Whips By Roger Patterson

We are Pleased and Honored to have been Personally selected by Roger Patterson to be one of a very select group to carry these superb examples of the Whip Makers Art. Whips hand made by Roger Patterson Owner and Founder of Hard Love LeatherTM are the best whips available for both the experienced whip player as well as the novice.

The owners of this site are pleased to have been introduced to Roger, and that he has decided to allow us to sell his Children, his Whips. Our heartfelt thanks to you Roger for, your dedication to your craft, and our chosen Lifestyle.

The following topics are from Roger himself, and will serve to give you a good primer on Whip play as well as what to watch for and how to use them.

Kiss Truth

Kiss truth. Be honest with yourself. Before you buy a whip ask yourself if you are prepared to use it responsibly, safely and with love. As all tools are slaves to the morality of the person using them, so too are whips. Only love therefore can own and use a whip. I am delighted and grateful for the opportunity to provide you with the tools of pleasure that your love so richly deserves.

Safety

Safety is too vast a subject and individually specific to cover here. Still, it is impossible to overemphasize certain common sense road signs to safe play.

  • If you don't know how to do it, ask a mentor to show you how.
  • If you or your play partner have a substance abuse problem, You cannot play with whips!
  • You cannot jump over your own learning curve, therefore be patient with yourself. The spectacularly choreographed whip moves you've seen others do took them years to perfect.
  • AIDS does not give a flying, flaming, hoot about our good intentions. Therefore my whips, although cleanable, are intended as one-bottom whips. If you use them on multiple bottoms the procedure to clean them is to wipe down the tips with lavish amounts of isopropyl alcohol (which hopefully disinfects, but also dries them out) and then reapply a coat of Pecard's leather dressing. Even so, as it is impossible to absolutely eliminate the possibility of transferring bodily fluids from the skin of one bottom to another via the tip of a whip, I strongly advise the safer path of using these whips only on one bottom.
  • All contact between even a lightly thrown soft-tip whip and any part of even the toughest body, even the large muscle groups on the back of the shoulders, upper back and buttocks, involves some risk which you, the whip thrower, are totally responsible for.
  • Because most beginners already use common household objects up to 3 feet in length they will already have better hand-eye coordination with our whips in the 3 foot and especially 2 foot lengths. These are safer to use, more fun, and less expensive.

Consensuality Or, What Part of No Don't You Understand?

In a world riddled with obscene, nonconsensual brutality, our mission in the leather scene is to reduce that non-consensuality. We have safe words, which must be respected. Our moral credibility vanishes the instant a safe word is ignored.

We build strong loving artists of love (what I call the Valkyries) by playing with each others' strengths within the sanctuary of consensuality. Between the cumulus clouds of consensuality we ride lightning bolts of fun and we ride them hard.

Cracking the Whip

As you progress in your whip practice and play, you may wish to consider the longer whips which have the attraction of producing the dramatic cracking sound when the tip breaks the sound barrier at 742 miles per hour. Be assured that everyone who has begun to practice with the longer whips has zinged themselves accidentally (and sometimes enjoyably). Nonetheless, wear long sleeves and eye protection. Plastic goggles are cheaper than eyeballs!

You are in competition with no one. Relax and enjoy your scene play. Be patient with yourself. Savor each lovely moment of your pleasure and the pleasure of the love you give.

Happily the leather scene has many books, organizations and mentors who together can provide you with wise counsel on all issues of safe leather play.

Maintaining Your Whip

Because our whip cores are made up of layers of glued together leather, the core rolls out in the same plane as the original hide. If you balance the whip at its center of mass (usually about one third of its length from the bulge end of the handle) it will naturally droop down along that plane. This is the plane in which it is intended to be thrown. This gives it built-in accuracy, which should help you play safer.

You should throw all your whips, especially the cracking whips, with moderate to light wrist energy. The harder you use your whips the faster they will wear out. This aging process can be slowed down with the monthly application of leather dressing, especially on the outer third of your whips.

The best leather conditioner that we have found is Pecard's Leather Conditioner.

These are Custom made whips, and will require 3 to 4 weeks before they are shipped.
